The Department of the Interior (DOI) has released a new order aimed at streamlining the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reviews process.
The order sets a page limit of NEPA Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) to one hundred and fifty (150) pages for standard projects and three hundred (300) pages for unusually complex projects. The new page limits do not include appendices.
The order also provides a timeline that must be followed when preparing EISs. There is a one (1) year target for completion of the EIS from the notice of intent (NOI) to prepare on EIS.
This has been proposed as a way to streamline the review process, many in the preservation industry feel this will have a negative effect on historic and preservation reviews.
